One question above all

Umrah travel is its own kind of trip. You choose a hotel by one question before the others: how far is it from the Haram? On Hilalstay, stays in Makkah and Madinah show their distance to the Masjid al Haram or the Prophet's Mosque first, so you can compare them fairly before you look at anything else.

Choosing a hotel by distance

Each stay in Makkah or Madinah shows its straight-line distance to the Masjid al Haram or the Prophet's Mosque, measured from the hotel's position on the map, and you can sort the results by it. A straight line is not the walk itself, so a few things are worth weighing before you decide.

  • The closest addresses feel the crowds most. A little more distance can mean a quieter room and a calmer start to the day.
  • The way on foot is usually longer than the straight line, and some streets involve bridges, escalators or busy roads. Look at the hotel's location on a map if you travel with older family or a pushchair.
  • With several trips a day to the mosque, even a few hundred metres each way adds up. Choose for your own feet, and for whoever travels with you.

Families and family rooms

Many families prefer a family room or a suite that sleeps everyone together. Use the family rooms must-have when you search, and check each room's maximum occupancy before you pay. Add each child's age in the search so the hotel knows who is coming.

  • Family rooms depend on what the hotel has free for your dates, so book early for the busy seasons.
  • For older relatives, a room near the lifts and on a lower floor can matter more than a view.

Makkah and Madinah

Many travellers combine the two cities, usually arriving via Jeddah or Madinah airport. In Makkah, life in the central area revolves around the Haram, and hotels are described by their distance from it. In Madinah, the Prophet's Mosque sits at the centre of a calm district, and many hotels are close to it.

Visas and permits: Nusuk

Umrah visas and permits are handled through Saudi Arabia's official Nusuk platform. Rules and requirements change over time, so check the current rules there before you plan your travel. Hilalstay arranges your hotel, not your visa or permits.

The same honest labels

The labels you see across Hilalstay apply here too. Where a detail such as family rooms or prayer space comes from the hotel's own listing, it is marked Hotel says. Anything we have not confirmed yet is marked Unknown, and we would rather show you that than a guess.
